Came to a realization that two of my friends had the "look" I was going for.  Here is a shots of Elle Busch and Bradley Christopfel...

marc jacobs.

The original idea I had surrounded upon the idea of modern images with a vintage feel.  After re-vamping my installation idea, I wanted to think more about what I wanted my images to look like.

After walking around the Fine Arts building on a daily basis, I noticed good spaces to shoot pictures.  What I really noticed was the amount of white walls everywhere, and the fluorescent lighting.  This reminded me of one of my favorite print campaigns by design powerhouse Marc Jacobs.

famous polaroids.

Andy Warhol was a big fan of using the Polaroid camera, and his work is among some of my most favorites.  I love Warhol's use of color in his work, and the tones in his Polaroids are what I am going for.

Here's some of his Polaroid work:

new idea.

After a little bit of discussion, my installation process has taken a little bit of a different direction.  I still intend to keep the same idea in working with "modern polaroids," yet Michael suggested a way in which my piece can become more interactive.  It is my intention to complete my polaroids in Photoshop, then turn them into coasters.  I will then take these coasters, and place them at places where they will be in use (restaurants, bars, etc.).  I think this will be an interesting way to view my work, as it will allow an opportunity for people to both view and use my art.

exciting news from polaroid.

I have just purchased a polaroid 600 camera from eBay, knowing that the film will be hard to come by.  Despite this large obstacle, I still couldn't resist buying it with those kind of prices.

That being said, I was looking around the internet, and came upon a site that gave information about a new launch of Polaroid products.

Apparently, Polaroid announced that they will be coming out with a more contemporary version of their classic instant camera that will come in a wide range of colors.  The PIC 1000 will use the classic polaroid 600 film.  Even better, the film will be compatible with both contemporary and classic contemporary cameras.

Looks like I will be anticipating the arrival of the PIC 1000 so I can actually gain easier access to film!

polaroid envy.

Here's a website with some really cool examples of polaroids that photographers have taken today: http://www.flickriver.com/groups/polaroid_/pool/random/

The warm colors and vintage-feel in these photos would be the types of images that I am trying to achieve.

inspired beginning.

Lately I have had an obsession with Polaroid pictures...

Originally, my plan was to take digital images of modern and contemporary objects or people.  I was going to take them into photoshop, where I would manipulate the photos so they would have somewhat of a vintage look (circa 1970's).  From there, I would crop each image and frame it in a Polaroid frame, to make the modern images look "retro-fied."

Though I still intend to stick with this plan, I had a sudden interest in actually purchasing my own Polaroid camera.  Suddenly arriving upon this idea, just one week before the due date, probably wasn't the most realistic option.  I do, however, plan on bidding on a Polaroid 600 today and see if I can find one that will ship quickly.  I think that it would add interest to my installation (at least, for me that is).

Once I have collected several images, I would like to cover a portion of one of the dark-paneled wood walls in my room.  To showcase my installation of my blog, I will attempt to scan each individual "polaroid" and document the entire piece as well.

This was my original inspiration:

I have always been drawn to the look of too many images on a wall, and I love the different shapes and sizes of the frames here.  This inspired me for this project because of the overall layout.  I thought about doing something with frames, but I thought that it would be a good opportunity to work on my (lack) of photography skills.  When I finish gathering images, I might consider framing them in larger frames with no glass or background.

It would also be cool to make the frames different colors...time is really the only issue here.
